Is It Worth It?

Featured Replies

Here in North Carolina boat insurance is not mandated. However I am strongly considering a full policy for my boat and my trailer. Just wondering if you guys have full insurance or at least liability on your vessels even if it's not required? A few people have suggested not to ensure it and just be careful. However for less than $200 a year I feel I may be better off to do it.

If you can afford it and it gives you peace of mind, I say go for it. Better to have it and not need it than need it and not have it.

It all adds up.

I have full coverage insurance...always have, always will.

I think it is worth it......every penny.

I've always had full coverage because the bank requires it for a loan, but I would highly recommend it either way. Peace of mind when it comes to a boat is pretty important if you ask me.

Being careful can't cover theft, but insurance can.

Yep that did it. :-)

I haven't been required to carry insurance for the last 3 years. I still maintain the coverage because it doesn't matter how careful you are, things happen.  Flying down the river and the steering cable breaks.....boat veers off and hits someone, seriously injuring them.  Guess what?  You're gonna loose your house.

Just got the insurance. Full coverage on my boat, trailer, and also coverage on any fishing tackle or electronics I may loose. :-)

$200 for a piece of mind on a boat/outboard- easy decision for me. Never thought twice about canceling my full insurance policy.

So you don't have insurance?

Or

Canceling your insurance never crossed your mind?

I was going to say if you didn't to make sure and check if your plan covers fishing tackle. Some of them don't cover anything that didn't come attached to the boat. I've got an extra 10k of coverage just for my fishing gear and electronics.

Wise move. It's like renters insurance. Stupid cheap and can save your butt in a catastrophe. I had progressive on my boat and had an extra writer to cover electronics and gear. Loved them and when I buy another boat, I will be back with them.

That says it all
