Hey all, I am looking into taking a few days to drive down south somewhere for a winter bass fishing trip. I would like to go at the end of march and drive down south for 4 days, 2 days for driving and 2 days for fishing. Wondering if you guys could give me some ideas as to where I could go. I live around Toronto, Ontario and would like to maximize fishing time so the less driving the better. Warm weather would be nice, but I dont mind if its a little cool, just need open water. I will probably drag my own boat which is a 20' Javelin bass boat so a lake that is not hard to navigate would be nice. Looking for large or smallmouth bass.

Any help or tips would be great.

roadwarrior, by one day i mean 24 hours... 2 of us going and we can take shifts driving. I can make it to florida in 20-22 hrs

^^^^^Then that's probably where I'd go if distance was of no concern. Florida has been on fire for huge bass this past season. I'd get a guide.

Bassmaster Classic. They did pretty well, but by late March I suspect the fishing will

For that time of year take a look at the Sante Cooper Lakes (Lake Moultrie and Lake Marion), if you hit the weather just right the big largemouth will be flooding the shallows of the "Hatchery" on Lake Moultrie. I think that is about a 15 hour drive for you.

End of March is not winter down south lol.  You need to go now.  I am driving down to Guntersville tonight.  I have 12 buddies there now and they have sent pics of 4 pounders already.  Buddy got a 12lbr in feb 2013.  We get numerous 5-8 pounders in Feb.

Toledo Bend has produced 28 double digit bass since Jan 1st!

So many choices but don't count out Lake Toho if you make it to central Florida. Many DD's have been caught there so far this year.

I would wait for the ice to come off of the lakes in Northern Wi or Michigan. Tons of fun when that ice first starts to come off. That being said they had ice until like may last year. 

Drove thru Snow-pokalips 2015 to get to a wintery mess on Guntersville.  Shoveled 10 inches of snow off the ramp and had a great day.  Multiple 4-5 pounders.  The next couple days were bluebird and frigid.  Tougher bite but my partner did bring the biggest bass I have ever seen to the boat.  Not in the boat tho.  She took him all the way around the boat and wehn he finally got her to the net she rolled over like a dog and rattlebait come out.  She sit there for a split second about 10 inches in the water.  I tried to net her but she swam away.  GIANT.  Her eyes were bugged out and looked like golf balls.  Other than fighting the deep snow and Alabama not having salt trucks, the trip was a success.  Good luck and go as soon as you can to get those biggins.

I kinda forgot i started this thread... Glad i remembered as there is lots of great tips here. Thanks all, gonna start looking through all the suggestions. One other question, seeing as florida seems like a good destination. My parents own a place in Florida near sarasota,i could save myself the lodging fees if there was something near them that is worth fishing. Anything in that area? Thanks again for the help
