Fluorcarbon Coated Line

Featured Replies

Does anyone see any advantage in using fluoro coated lines? Why would manufacturers make these?

I like P line fluoroclear. It's cheaper than pure fluoro, and has benefits of fluorocarbon and nylon line. What's not to love?

Becuase you have the low stretch of fluoro but the handling of a mono line. I love fluoro coated and hybrid lines. My favorite is PLine CX but I have some YZ Hybrid for spring.

Fluoro does not necessarily have low stretch. Fluoro coating supposedly adds abrasion and UV resistance and usually makes the line slowly sink. P-line CXX is a good copolymer and it's in my rotation, but for the most part I don't see any point in using copoly over pure Fluorocarbon unless you have to save money.

Thaat's my thing. I use 12,15, and 20 pound Floroclear for about everything.

I use to never use hybrids or fluoro coated lines, but last year my fluoro on my crankbait got real messed up so bad that I had to rip it all off, my cousin had yozuri 12lb clear so he let me spool up for the time being until i get new fluoro. Guess what, I left that line on for the rest of the season and this year I already bought the same line but 10lb instead for that same rod. Its so strong and the abuse i put that line through is unreal, I now love yo zuri!!

Got the PLINe cx big spool on sale a few weeks ago. It has been a few years since I have used anything since power pole with the exception of one rod i have 100% bass pro xps fluro on. I thought that the co poly would be conparable to be the 100% fluro and always looking to save money on lining up 20+ set ups, however the few times i have used this line I have had problems, both backlashing and line digging into itself. My two cents..

My favorites are Yo Zuri Hybrid in green,

and P-Line Floroclear in mist green.

They're inexpensive, and I've got a lot of

yardage to use. Also have some pure

fluorocarbon, but my trust level is not as

high with it at this point. Maybe some day

it will.

All of this is used as leader material attached

to braided mainline - all my setups.

They do this for abrasion resistance.

True fluorocarbon-coated lines are rather uncommon.

P-Line CX is a true fluoro-jacketed line (not CXX however)

The fluoro jacket boosts abrasion-resistance while the nylon core boosts manageability.

Technically speaking, P-Line CX is cofilament line, while Yo-zuri Hybrid is monofilament line

in which fluoro and nylon are molecularly bonded to achieve the same end.

I use P-Line flouroclear for all my leaders on braid setups.   It's tough, and to my eye, seems more translucent in the water.   And it's cheaper than flourocarbon leader.   And for me the true test was using this in saltwater for a couple years.   It withstood all kinds of toothy fish  inshore, not to mention all the sharp oysters and barnacle encrusted structure, so I have the utmost confidence using it for bass and the softer structure assocaiated with them.

+1 on P-Line CX. Most abrasion resistant stuff i have ever used.

I tried fishing fluoroclear instead of braid for lipless crankbaits and I started get clogged with grass literally every cast or two, The stretch just would not allow me to rip the bait from the grass and I lost a lot of feeling with the bait.

That's a very valid point overlooked by many excellent fishermen.

There's a blanket belief that mono is superior to braid for crankbaits (Yes & No).

In the Kissimmee chain of lakes, if you throw crankbaits tied to monofilament line,

you will spend your day plucking weeds off treble hooks.
