Home Made Pond Boat???

Featured Replies

Has anybody made or seen any ideas for a home made pond boat?  I use a 14 jon boat for ponds I can back a trailer in to but it is too heavy to pull off the trailer and drag to water.  There are a couple ponds I fish that I cannot back a trailer in.  I wouldn't mind one of those plastic 10' boats but really don't want to spend 500$ on a new one or 300$ on a used.  Has anybody made anything with say, big pvc pipes and ply wood? ...maybe like a catamaran.. I would put a 30lb thrust trolling motor on it.  Any ideas welcome!

Personal inflatable pontoons are cheap, light, and excellent fishing platforms. Will save you time in the long run.

I bought a used 12' johnboat for $100. Just have to check Craigslist a lot and call as soon as one is posted for cheap and have cash in hand because they go fast!

Do an internet search on "plywood pram plans".  You should find something that will work for you.  You will find some that can be made from one sheet of plywood, but they would be too tiny and unstable.

I could see some BA float trips in this thing! Strap a cooler to it and roll on!

What about a big innertube and a pair of flippers.  It's what fly fishermen use.

A float tube is by far the lightest/cheapest way to travel, but unless you're fishing just at the height of summer, you will need waders.

Any boat made from plywood will be much heavier than aluminum.
