Revo S And Sx Opinions

Featured Replies

Anyone have experience with either of these reels?  I am relatively new to bait casting and have been using a black max.  I feel that I am ready to step up to a better reel.  That being said I only have limited experience with braking systems.  The black max and SX have the magnetic while the S has the Centrifugal pitch.  I feel like the centrifugal system would give me more flexibility in the long run but I could be wrong.   What are your opinions or experiences with these reels?  Are either of these good step up reels or can I do better with a different brand or reel?

I got a Revo S a few years ago and got another the next year.  I wouldnt mind getting another, honestly.  I dont think you should worry too much about the breaking system.  For the Centrifugal brakes on the Revo S, its pretty much set 3 in 3 out and you are good to go.  I considered the SX before getting my first S, but I was told the only real differences were the brakes and the SX is a bit lighter.  They are good reels, but if you are looking for something that will cast further or smaller baits, I would consider a Lews.  That being said, for the bigger baits I prefer the Revo.

I have a gen 2 sxhs and it's been a solid reel so far. I prefer centrifugal brakes myself but I've been able to make the mag brakes work for me.

I wouldn't worry too much about the brake system. I've got a Revo Inshore that has the same braking system and it's pretty much set it and forget it.

I prefer centrifugal brakes over all, but have a few mag only reels that work fine especially in pitch/flip applications. The S is a fine reel. If you want to jump up I'd go straight to the STX.

I have both reels and thought they were great until I got my Lews tournament reel. It has magnetic and centrifugal breaking and is absolute butter!!! They are $119 at Cabelas right now and IMO that is an absolute steal.....Abu is nice but with Lews you can literally "feel the difference"!!

I own a revo s, bought it last year, needed to get a reel for my topwater/jerkbait rod so I went with that. I have no issue throwing light baits on this reel, matter of fact I was casting 1/8-1/4 pretty far. Most of my poppers are very light, so i made sure i bought a rod that would help cast the light stuff. I have a revo mgx and of course thats an amazing reel, but the revo s is great too. GL on your decision.

Love my Revo s
