Featured Replies

I already have this rod.

I'm thinking of pairing it with a Shimano Conquest 200 to throw I- Slide 135's and 6inch Savage Gear Line Thru Trouts. I'm gonna use Ultra Soft 15lb test as my line. Any thoughts, feedback or critiques would be appreciated.

You may want to consider heavier line.

20 lb mono at least.

I'm using 20 pound test mono on a 200 sized calcutta d and I'm very happy with the setup. The conquest is a nice reel.

For 1 to 2 oz baits, I use yozuri hybrid in 15#, but not the ultra soft, and it is more than enough, especially for the baits mentioned. You'd be surprised how much down-sizing your line helps glide baits.

No need for a monster reel at or below 2oz. I would run an pre- tws zillion with 15-20 lb yo-zuri or p-line cxx. A dobyns 795 would be a good rod choice. If you want a round reel a Luna or Calcutta are both quality reels.

I had Conquest on that rod for a while, and Ultra Soft 15 pound is a .405 MM line so I think it will be fine.

Perfect rod, your reel choice may be a little undersize, 250 or 300 size holds more line. Sunline Defier Armilo Nylon is ideal for this application, small dia line .014 is 19 lb, .015 is 22 lb and .016 is 25 lb. example Yo-Zuri 15 lb is .016 D or equal to 25 lb Sunline Defier Nylon. I use a 300 size reel and fill it with 1 spool, 165 yards of 25 lb Defier Nylon. The 200 size reel should hold 1 spool of 15 lb Defier Nylon, or 110 yards 25 lb.

Good luck.

The 300 Conquest is supposed to be out sometime this month. I will hold off a little bit and see if it comes out.
