Anyone had luck? Can fish see them? I don't get the appeal

I've used the clear in both zara puppy the regular size zara spook for schooling bass and they work pretty good for me

My local wall Mart has like 40 of them for a buck each

I am thinking of picking a couple up

For a buck what can it hurt? Draw a couple lines across the belly with a black marker. 

yeah my wal mart had a sale last year stocked up on the clear and bone white colors. along with a few other. the clear works well. I put a stripe or something on the bottom if I feel I need to. they work well.

My clear Super Spook is my best producing dog-walker.  Far more strikes than shad-colors.

 

I have come to believe that less attention to detail is better for this lure.

i would get some, my walmart always has them on sale in the offseason so i have like 5 zara puppies in every color (bass, clear, bone, and a couple frog colors)

That is my favorite topwater for smaller bodies of water with good visibility.  I theorize that the lack of a defined shadow in clear water makes it more difficult for the fish to realize it is a fake.  Basically there is something splashing around that is not a dark, menacing shape.

That's exactly why I feel like they work. Less there for the fish to see and determine that it's a fake, although I've had times they have a hard time getting the bait, probably because they have a hard time seeing it. Our Wal Mart had the same deal and I bought half a dozen of them, killer little bait. 

I bought 30 of them last year. Figured if they didnt work well I could always give them to friends who paint lures. I have not tried them yet.

I use them one size up - Super Jr. size - and they do draw a lot of strikes! I feel more confident throwing them in the sun than any other color spook. I've heard of guys swapping the front treble out for something in red, to give the fish a target to zero in on. I've tried it myself and it doesn't seem to make much difference, but hey, couldn't hurt.

Whether it's a zara puppy or a super spook jr, clear and bone colors are my top producers

I agree with mumbly, bone white and clear are my colors for spooks. My theory with the clear spook is that the splashing and ripples that the spook makes as you walk it are what triggers the strike, so a flashy or bright color isn't really needed.
