I went out the other day going to try out a spook I got out of my dads old old tack box.  Cast it out there and when I start popping it, it starts diving.  I don't think that's right and I couldn't figure out why.  I'm using mono could that be the problem?

What size mono??? ur using a puppy 6lb line is about as far up as u can go,,fluro will sink it also btw you dont pop a spook subtle movement on top rod tip at the 1 oclock position and barely move it

12Ib.  Well I was moving it kinda of hard then. What about braid I fish mostly muddy water

I use the Zara puppy's all the time with 12lb mono and have had 0 issues with it exept that it's hard to walk the dog with. Maybe your pulling the rod tip instead of popping it."

Try using a loop knot, either that or a split ring.  If you're cinching a knot directly to the line tie, keep it higher and see if that doesn't help eliminate it from diving.

I know it isn't common but I often fish wallking baits with a spinning reel 10 lb braid. My sun was smoking me with a Sammy on his spinning and I have been doing it since. Puppy's cast and work great

I use a loop knot on it. I have a couple baits I walk the dog with but this is the first spook.  Is the spook suppose to be walked? Are you suppose to hold the rod tip up or down to the water? 

Do you pop it fast or slow?

The puppy is very finicky. I fish mine on a spinning rod with 6 or 8 pound mono, using very quick, short snaps. It's a small bait, small prey items don't make big movements, so I don't want my bait to make big movements.

Ok I was doing kind of big snaps but I the reel I was using is kind of heavy so maybe that had some impact on how I was moving the bait
