what do I need for making flippin jigs? I'm thinking some poison tail jig heads, some round rubber(black, blue, and brown), some weedguards, some powder paint, and some saltwater grade fly tying thread.

Yeah,  it worked good but it took awhile to get my fingers apart. ;D

I just oredered thread and round rubber yesterday before seeing your post g man.  will thread work okay?  I also got some premade and prepainted jig heads with weedguards because my dad didn't want me pouring lead or heating jig heads for painting.  maybe my dad will let me get some poison head molds and a lead pourer/melter soon.

It will work fine.  I just like the copper wire because it wont ever rot.

I normally use 4" pieces so 15 or 16 jigs. They will be a pain to tie with the weed guard already in place. Wire will be much easier than thread.

You can heat the jig heads for painting in an oven or toaster oven or even with the flame of a candle.   I have even dipped them in liquid paint when I didn't have powder paint.  Work on him for the next time and get some without the weed guard.

you will more then likely destroy the weedguard.  Tying with a weedguard in is a bit more of a pain but once you get the hang of it it wont be bad at all.  Just take your time.

oh btw,  dont pull the string too tight and break it or cut the rubber.  It does have to be tight enough so the rubber doesnt slide around.

Tie it any way you want it then put some glue or clear nail polish on the thread.  Allow it to dry before you cut the rubber.

(That is correct.  You grab on to it and stretch it out while you cut it.  As you cut it the bands will peel off the 1" piece and pop back.  When you are done you will have a 1/4" strip in your hand to throw away.
