Help me pick wrap colors

Featured Replies

I am indecisive on what colors to wrap the guide on my first rod build.  What colors do you like as a main wrap with a small trim band?

Wrap colors for the most part are personal preferences.

I personally like Royal Blue with Silver inlays, Scarlet with Gold inlays, and Candy Apple with Silver inlays. When I don't want any colors then I wrap in Black with Silver inlays.

But like I said color is personal preferences..

The important part is to wrap each guide keeping the wraps to a minimum in length, and with as little finish as possible to keep the weight down on the forward end of the rod.

For glossy blanks I often do the "stealth" thing making the wraps match the blank as closely as possible.  To do this, do test wraps of colors closely matching the blank, then apply alcohol to the wrap to see the color that almost matches the color you would have if you wrapped that color thread without using color preservative.

I think your blank is matte, so you won't get very stealthy on that and it may make more sense to just go with the colors you like.  My last matte gray rod was done with candy apple with CP and scarce metallic gold trim, and it looks very nice.

I've never visited the site without learning something new.
