I have a couple questions about Post Spawn bass fishing.

 

Where do bass head after spawning?

 

What are some key baits I should use?

 

What time of day is best?

 

Please tell me any other Important info!!!!

 

Also any certain things you know about Lake Marion would help as well.

 

Im fishing the SC High School State Championship on Lake Marion May 3rd and my partner and I will be focusing on Pre-Spawn and Post-Spawn bass since the water is usually to dirty for bed fishing.

Look at my opening post please. It is a little more specific.

Think of the spawing season as 4 groups of bass in 3 stages of spawn; pre spawn, bed fish spawning and post spawn. The 4 groups are; 2 groups of male and 2 groups of females. The males are the early bed making bass and then the same males stay around the bed site to protect it. The second group of males (same bass) are guarding fry for about a week before leaving the area. The females are early pre spawn and bed bass, the second group are the same females that have finished spawning and recovering. The recovering females rest about a week then transition to post spawn leaving the area. Bass often spawn in waves, they don't all spawn at the same time.

The pre spawner's are the most catchable bass, the post spawner's are not as aggressive. Both pre and post spawn tend to locate in deeper water near the spawning area.

Your lake is a low land shallow reservior, the bass should be cover oriented.

Back to where they were before spawning, that might be in a totally different area or it might be in the same area they just spawned in. If you don't know where they were before you'll have a hatd time finding the after!

What are some key baits I should use?

Despite what many will tell you there isn't any "key" baits, there are however "key" locations you can search.

What time of day is best?

Again despite what many will tell you there is no such thing as "best" time of day.

I simple thing to keep in mind is that the bass are going to be looking for food.  During the spawning phases they did not focuss on this that much.  Find where the food source is and use jerks, cranks, flukes and jigs to find em'.  Pretty much where all the other post say to go creek mouths, drop offs stuff like that
