I was fishing today and my handle on my Duckett began to twist where the reels misaligned with the eyes. It snapped back into place, but it was still loose and continued to inch its way around. What should I do to repair this?

If it is a micro magic, 20 year warranty. If it is a ghost, 1 year from purchase. Give Duckett a call. Might be surprised with their response.

O.K, thanks. It is a Micro Magic medium power so I'll give them a call. I tried spinnerbaits with it last week when it started. That might have loosened it.

It shouldn't matter what bait you throw with a rod. Grips and seats come loose due to inadequate adhesive use and/or application. In the advent that a free replacement isn't and option, it's a relatively easy fix for a competent rod builder. If you're handy, I could probably talk you through it. I'd do it for you but shipping might be a deal breaker.

I have contacted Duckett and was told that they would replace it, but since it was a year and a half ago it would cost me $60. I am usually impressed with the customer service, but they disapointed me today. I don't know if it is worth the extra. The tip has been replaced,they top is slightly warped, and the seat is twisting, but that is 40% of retail.

I am pretty handy, especially with building. Do you think the fix would be just as good or would you go for the replacement?

No way they'd get $60 out of me in that situation. Warrantee time or not, that's a blatant case of defective workmanship and should gladly be corrected, in my humble opinion. It's a $10-$20 repair at best. I'd repair that one and scratch them off my list of prospective future purchases.

I will contact you soon. I have a lot of classes today (sitting in class right now) and will be preparing for finals so I am pretty busy, but I will; contact you ASAP. I might also try to write a strong, more proffesional email to Duckett, instead of calling them and I might get further. My voice is still 18 so I do not get quite as much respect over the phone.

Thanks. I have an outing planned at the end of next week (actually sooner, but this caused me to post-pone) and this is my only rod, so I am hoping to get it fixed fast.

Sounds great. I contacted them again with a strongly worded email, but the best they said they could do is have me send it to them and they would fix it for shipping cost of $20. If they could not fix it then they would send me a new one. This would be fine, but they want me to ship the entire pole (opposed to a small section I would cut out of the pole that they wanted this morning) to them which according to them cost on average 20-25 dollars. That would bring me back up to $45, nearly 30% retail value of a new rod. 

I cannot believe that they are not fixing it. It is still under warranty (20 year) and the reason they said that it cost $40+s&h for a new one is that the bugs from the old have been worked out. In that case they should have had a recall, not charge extra. I really like the rod and that the company is in my home state, but this might be my last Duckett.

I'd bet that people viewing this thread have cost them 100 times what a replacement or repair would have. Penny wise / pound foolish once again. It's not like a broken tip that was 99% probable user error. Oh well, chalk it up.

I might add, it's not unreasonable for a rod company to request the whole rod back. Some allow the rod to be cut up into some pieces, others say a pic of the receipt & the broken rod is sufficient..

They said they did not want to give me a new one for just shipping cost because they were a more refined version, but would try to repair mine for that, but I had to pay shipping both ways. That is why they wanted the whole thing. If I paid the $60 I was to cut the serial number section out of the rod and send it to them.
