I agree. My BPS is just like this. I would give it a try myself. Not all BPS are the same though. Then if they will not replace and you are worried about the new model, Gander is a great choice also.

Why are you using such heavy line? Line of that thickness will be very hard to manage. If you are just bass fishing and this is your all around rod, then may I suggest 15 lb test. I have pulled my boat across the water on a snag with 15.

Check the transom completely. Raise the motor up a bit and put your weight on it. If there is any flex in the transom, walk away. If there is anyway to see into the hull, make sure foam is not water soaked. Crawl underneath and look for hull repair and see if you can take it to a dealer for a complete check over. It will cost for the check but may save you money.

I have a 76 sea nymph and the hull is solid. No leaking at all. Had to replace the transom wood and floorboards over time but the hull keeps being solid.

You just described any reel in the 150 dollar range. Go to a store and pick one out that you feel most comfortable with. Your rod choice is what you should be concerned with. It will be a challenge to find a rod that can handle weightless baits to 1 once spinners and jigs. MH rods can handle 1 once but not always a weightless bait. Usually 3/8 at the least. Yet a medium will typically go 1/4 to 5/8. Not saying you cannot use a MH, it will just be challenging sometime.

Check the spool outside edge for damage.

Check the transom and the hull really well. Boat that old could have rotted wood on it. With 2500 I would steer away from glass and look for tin. Any glass in that range will be old and full of problems.

Bass Pro stopped carrying Daiwa. Was a good place to compare at. As far as best, it is all personnal preference so I will say that they are all the best depending on who is saying.
