Looking to get a Dobyns 734 to use for spinnerbaits and skinney dippers. Is the champion series worth the extra money? Also I'm looking for a good deal. Thanks

For moving baits, the Savvy would do just fine.

The Savvy will serve you just fine for those applications. Save the extra $$. I have the 734 Champion, this rod serves me better for jigging applications. 

Like the others have said, the Savvy will do well for moving baits. If you are going to only fishing moving baits go Savvy but if you're going to fish plastics or jigs then you will need to get the champion series.

If you even have a thought that the rod could see use with jigs or plastics, then go for the Champion

Savy will work fine for those applications. I got into Dobyns rods around a year and a half or so ago after seeing a lot of people using them on this site. I used a 734 savy for chatterbaits and it was a nice rod but the sensitivity was not there for me for bottom contact. I then bought a 734 Champion and never looked back to the Savy. The only Dobyns rods I use now are the Champions and Champion Extremes.

I think you made the right choice, The Savvy isn't a good choice for plastics and jigs, it is such a dead feeling rod but the champion will be fine for all baits that you would like to fish with it, including plastics and jigs. Let us know what you think about it after you have fished it for a while.

I am late to the party, but the champ 734 is a great spinnerbait/swimjig rod. I loved throwing SBs with it, I love throwing texas rigs even more though and sold it. You will enjoy that rod for the purpose you bought it for. 

Never thought I would pay that much for a rod, but as good as everyone speaks of them, I had to try one.

Champion is miles ahead of the Savvy. Especially if you can get a deal on it!

BTD seems to be only 20% on Dobyns unless I'm missing something. I had a long stare-down with a 744 FH yesterday.
