Loomis guys
Dang I wish, no sir I have not, but I'm going to order the 903mbr to test against my other NRX rods. My go to is the 893, I'm wondering if the Conquest 903mbr is as "crisp" (if you will) as the 893 NRX.

Loomis guys
If you are wanting top tier, like you said, for the weights you listed, NRX 894 or Shimano/Loomis Conquest 894mbr, you're welcome.

Loomis NRX buying help
My thoughts as well, I was really looking forward to selling mine and getting these new one's. Not sure I like them all being MBR rods, and going from 7' to 7'6", and they look like the NRX, what a kick to the nuts, but I guess it saves me some money.

Very good options mentioned above, if you can add a few more dollars to your budget, try to find a used/demo NRX 853 or 854

Shimano 2016 Metanium MGL vs 2017 Chronarch MGL
I have '13 mets, MGL's, CI4+, and recently obtained a Chronarch mgl. I have been using my Mets for moving baits, figured with the new Ch mgl it should be a good replacement. It is definitely an improvement over the Ch CI4+, smooth and feels good. For me, it will not be taking the place of the Mets, I was hoping I could save a few bucks over the Met mgl, but the Met is just that fine of a reel, IMO the Ch mgl can't touch the '13 met let alone the Met mgl. YMMV

When your buddy is having a rough day and you're not...
Checks cashed are not solely based on luck, but based on many factors as stated earlier. You are correct in your thinking that time on the water, knowledge of your waters, skills, research from fine forums like this, etc. has a lot to do with success. Fishing for most of us is just "fine tuning" anyway, no? We all know what to throw, when to throw it, and how to throw it, we are all looking for that little edge that will catch us more/bigger fish. Usually that "little edge" is luck, that's why people say "hey any luck" so to answer your question, it's not all luck, but it probably plays a bigger role than one might think. YMMV
