Straight shank flipping hooks

Recommended Posts

What's a good brand of flipping hooks?

im a Gamakatsu fan but have read that the bait keeper on the gammys are awful and slip down.

my second favorite hook brand is VMC but I've heard several people say that the bait keeper on them is a little big... so I'm not trying to tear my bait up before I even get it in he water.

Dont really have much experience with any other hook brands.... my trebles are either gammys or Mustad and my shakey heads are owner but as far as everything else ( drop shot, wacky, offset worm, and ewg hooks) they are all either Gamakatsu or VMC

I love the gamakatsu finesse heavy cover hooks, but hate the keeper. I cut it off and tied one on with 50lb mono. Its flexible enough to let the bait slip on without tearing, but stiff enough to not let it slip off.

x2 absolute great hook. I started with the Gamakatsu ones as well but had some major issues with the keeper. Wrote them about it, and was assured that they had already fixed the problem and I must have got a few old packs, didn't offer me new ones, but that can't be expected it would have been nice though since they obviously knew it was a problem in their design. I tried them again, this time the design was ever so slightly different, still had the same issue. Switched to Trokar's and haven't had an issue since.

Been using the Gami's but didn't like the plastic thing slipping down the hook...wasn't going to throw away so just cut it off with a knife and use the plain hook...works just fine.....will look into the Jungles.

Trokar TK 135.  They weren't good when they first came out (tips rolled) but that has been addressed.  They're super sharp and have the best bait keeper out there.

Gammies are great hooks, but, agree with everyone else...the bait keeper is junk.

Mustad Grip Pins are pretty good.  The grip pin will break eventually though.

I use the VMC's, the bait keeper on the VMC is no more, or less abusive to baits than the Trokar.

The only issue I have with Trokar TK130 is the bait keeper is to big for many plastics I throw.

The Owner 4X Jungle Flipping Hook solved that problem ;)

Mmmm

Iv'e been using these for years and never had that problem.

Granted, I only use Rage Craws, Bugs, Pit Boss' or Sweet Beavers with the hook.

My hottest flipping n pitching bait on local waters for the last year & a half is a Zoom Speed Worm, that hook destroys it just rigging it.

With the Jungle hook I can use any lure ;)

I can see that happening with the 130.

I tried to rig a Cut R one time because I was too lazy to re-tie and had to toss it.

vmc and trokars are in my box currently i like them but they do rip some baits up pretty well i've been using wacky rig o-rings on the top of my beavers lately and it has been saving me a ton of baits

I use the VMCs. I Only use them on chunky plastics, but I could see them destroying narrow worm type plastics.
