Baitcast Reel Seat Clamp

Featured Replies

I have a couple pistol grip casting rods that the plastic clamp piece which holds the reel has broken. Where can I get replacements ?  I am thinking that i will have to buy pistol grip handles to scavenge for parts. I really like the old pistol grips and do not want to give them up.

You talking about the old, old style that had a knob and screwed up through the bottom into a plastic piece to hold the reel foot?

If so, first I'd scour flea markets, garage sales etc for something I could canibalize. A scew down hood will be harder. Either replacing the whole grip & seat or taking off a few guides to allow a replacement hood to slide on from the front.

Pretty sure this is referring to reel seats that are not blank through seat design. You might try Zebco, they still make rods like this. There's a few JDM makers doing specialty rods like this too, but that might be labor intensive and costly. DVT's idea is your best bet.

I had 5 of those screw clamps and sold them all for $1 at the ICRBE in February. I may have a couple more in a box somewhere.

If you still have the screw, and the "clamp" isn't too complicated, I would think you or a machinist could fashion a new one and drill and tap it for the screw.  Might not look as good, but should work at least until you run across some new ones.  I'm sure that sooner or later you will.

I made one recently from some 1/8 stainless for an old Lews rod I found in a pawn shop. Just used a stainless nyloc nut that fit the original stainless screw from fuji.

Try Rick's Rods in Denver. He specializes in New Old Stock for guides and reel seats. 303-778-7911
