Targeting Different Fish?

Featured Replies

So I just started getting into fishing about 3 weeks ago and I only go to this one small pond by my home. The only fish I have caught there are bluegill and largemouth bass. I'm wondering if any of you have any tips on how to target different fish and such. Thanks

Maybe all the pond has is bluegill and bass. I would find out which species are present first.

If there are pike, try using a spinnerbait or rapala x-rap. if there are catfish or bowfin, catch a bluegill, cut it up, put some on a hook, cast it out and let it sit on the bottom, watch your line to see if it moves. theres my tips :) P.S catfishing is fun, if there are any.

Yeah it is.. I use to buy the cheapest hot dogs and cut a nice chunk and rig it up on the bottom..

A lot of lures that catch bass will also catch some of the other big, aggressive species if they're in there. The last few pike I've caught have been on wacky rigged senkos, and my most recent bowfin was caught on a little fat-bodied, shallow-running chrome crankbait.

small in-line spinners will catch anything

Very true.

Bass, pike, crappie, bluegill, rock bass, trout and even catfish can be taken on inlines....even carp have hit mine before.

A small grub on a light jighead will catch any fish in a pond.
