This fishing season has been the highlight of my use with baitcasting reels so far and has consequently introduced me to much heavier lines. The pros of this are obvious, less common drawbacks and struggles are what I'm trying to smooth out with some important tournaments coming up soon.

 

The biggest issue right now is with tying sturdy knots on heavy flouro and mono (upwards of 12 lbs.) Braid doesn't seem to have these same issues. Wondering if you folks use different knots to accommodate different line sizes and types?

Nope. I use the same knots for any line I use. If the knot is good for light lines, it's good for heavier lines too.

Once you select a reliable knot, the most important aspect is tying it correctly. Lubricating the knot before cinching it up is vital. As is cinching it down slowly. If you see something is not cinching correctly, re-tie it. If you don't, it will cost you fish and lures.

 

And if you want a great, very dependable knot, learn to tie the Trilene knot. This works very well for jigs, spinnerbaits, topwaters and lure clips. I'd only recommend the Alberto knot for joining any leader material to main line.

I fish 12 # test and up a lot. I tie a Palomar knot. It holds up extremely well. Just wet your knots etc.

I use the improved clinch for fluoro and mono.  Palomar for braid.  I use the same knots regardless of weight of line.

12lb line shouldn't be an issue even with a clinch. As someone already said, take your time and lube the line prior to tightening. With that said, I highly recommend the palomar knot. I use it from the lightest of lines to upwards of 60lb mono.

Palomar has always been one I can tie. The clinch is one I feel shakey with on heavier lines. Also still working on the uni.

Yep, same simplistic knots for any line size and fish species.  The difference  between a 1 # fish and 100 pounder is 99 #, nothing changes.

I use Palomar knot for everything but walk the dog baits and crankbaits. Those get the Canoe Man Loop

     For all flourocarbon I use an improved clinch knot....has NEVER failed me.

I use the same knots as light line. But for example when using the improved clinch, instead of 5-8 wraps around the main line I only do 3-6 with heavier line

I like the San Diego Jam and Palomar knot.

I use a San Diego Jam for everything. I have use it on 20# and even down to 1# diameter braid. I don't know if line can get any smaller then that. If I didn't tie that the next know would be a Uni.
