Frogging With A Short Rod

Featured Replies

Love to fish with a 7' rod but I fish OLD ponds with a lot of trees from shore. Anyone fish with a sub 7' rod for frogs/toads? My cover is very light maybe some grass on the edge. A 6'8" to short with a MH/F?

Nothing wrong with using a 6'8" rod for frogging.  Dean Rojas uses a 7' rod, only a few inches difference.   As long as you aren't sloppy with your hooksets it should be fine.

I'd try and find a heavy powered rod in the length you're looking for but other than that you should be fine.

my go to frogging stick is a 6'9  f6 super destroyer  , absolutely love it!!

I used to use a 6'6" MH/F and didn't have any issues with it.Only reason I went longer is because the MH/F didn't have quite enough backbone for a lot of the stuff I fish so I went to a 7'1" H/F. For light cover MH/F will do great!

My frog rod is a 6'6 H fast, and it works great. I lost a little casting distance by going shorter, but I gained a lot more control over my frog because of how light and balanced the set up is.

I use both a 6" gl2 and gl3 hvy  works great when I'm fishing out of my seaeagle for getting under limbs.. For my bigger boat I use a glx 6"8'

This is what I would think. I honestly think a 6'8 Heavy if you can find it is probably a great frog rod

I have a 6' H  Star rod I use for close combat under branches frogging

A short rod for frogging will be good to go. NO quite the distance of a 7'+ but from the bank a 6 or 6 1/2 is good
