What do yall think about finesse jigs? Do you like them? When and where do you throw them? What equipment do you use for them? What's your favorite finesse jig? What weights are most productive? I'm just trying to get a better understanding of them.

I make my own jigs, so I just tie the skirts then cut the outer half of the skirt level with the top of the jighead. I like 1/4-3/8 oz and usually throw them in pressured waters or when I think bass want something a little smaller.

i to make my own jigs, usually make my finesse jig in 3/16 or 1/4 ounce. i use a MH rod and usually throw them in smaller water or when the bass just aren't taking my big jig.

Define a finesse jig.

I'm assuming he means something like an Eakin's Jig or one with the "finesse" cut skirt where it's short and flared on the top and normal length on the bottom.

 

 

I like finesse jigs. I fish them on a 7' 1" MH/XF LTB/200IHG Curado/12-15lb Seaguar. I make my own jigs, only ones I fish. I fish finesse jigs everywhere I do other jigs, just when I feel like I need to downsize. I fish them in 1/4-1/2oz, depends on the depth mostly. 

My favorite finesse jig is the Pepper Custom Baits Micro Jig. A tiny paca chunk or a zoom creepy crawler is the perfect trailer.

Dez Seibert's finesse jigz is alls you needz! Mizzery craw and green pumpkin/sapphires is very good. Meybe gets a few of doze, then meybe gets a few mores? Dey all looks so nice, has you seen da Storm Series? Me thinks I needz some doze too!

I make my own and finesse jig to me means a lot of things. I make a finesse jig similar to an Eakins jig from 1/8oz up to 7/16oz, then I make small 1/16oz and 3/32oz with small size 2 and size 1 hooks with tiny trailers, so those are all finesse jigs to me and they all get used at different times and places. The Eakins type jig is one I use a lot, I'll use it with a craw type trailer around spots I wouldn't use a larger profile jig. Don't look at weights for finesse jigs as a lot or 3/8oz and 7/16oz which is just a tad under 1/2oz. Finesse jigs usually have a crop top skirt where the strands are cut short instead of doubled over as a regular bass jig, this is done for a few reasons, one is it greats a slimmer profile and the top strands have the look of a craw tail, and it also grabs water slowing the jig just a little bit. I like them when I know I'm in an area with a lot of craws and when the water is slightly stained and there is more than a foot of visibility, a great place to throw a finesse jig like the Eakins is along bare banks where there is some chunk rock or where the bank transitions from rock to clay or vise-versa. Make a cast and let it hit bottom and just slow drag it or give it a pop or two and let it sit to make it look like a craw scurrying, you may not think any fish are near these banks but the truth is if there are rocks than there are craws and that means fish will be near too. Boat docks are another good spot for these type jig, give them a shot, you'll end up liking them I'm sure.

I finesse jig more than I big jig. Much more productive around here it seems.

i like siebert's 1/4 oz finesse jigs, hard to beat.  i have better numbers on the finesse jig than a bigger mop style jig, but not to say it doesn't catch some bigger fish.
