I am about to pull the trigger on the G. Loomis NRX 853C, or perhaps the GLX 853C, and am curious about the real seat glue problem where the lock down nut has separated to where the reel will not stay on the rod. Has this issue been fixed with the more recently manufactured rods or will I have to plan on sending it back for a warranty fix?

 

Also, is the NRX $100 better than the GLX?

Also having never used the GLX I can't comment on the similarities and differences, but I would just go for it.  You only live once.  $100 spread out over the next 15-20 years is nothing.  Totally worth it to not second guess yourself

Yes the problem has been fixed as already mentioned. To answer your other question it's only worth it if you can detect the difference in sensitivity. Some people can & some people can not tell the difference.

I own a NRX 853 and a GLX 894.. I can tell the difference in sensitivity.. at least I think I can..

 To me, the 853 is the perfect 3/8-1/2oz. jig rod.. And I like the 85 inch rod better than the 89 which feels cumbersome to me..

 I would buy the NRX and I would buy it from American Legacy.

Yep, it's fixed. I have an 853C and I like it. I don't $525-like-it, but that's okay. If you're paying like $400 for one, go for it. I don't like it for 1/2 oz jig + swimbait trailer, but anything less is good. The sensitivity is great but probably overkill. Where the NRX shines (for me) is jigs or senkos on the fall with fluorocarbon line to detect soft or subtle bites. If you're looking at a GLX 853C, I would try to steer you toward an Orochi XX or a Dobyns Extreme. Also, recoil guides are usually gross but the hybrid guide train on the NRX sort of works. It's crazy-loud with something like CXX though.

I haven't used the new GLX line but the older models couldn't be beat and I don't know if you could get any more sensitive. I think if you went to The Hooked Up Tackle shop and found a rep sample for $400+ then I'd get the NRX but if not, the GLX is just flat out great. I don't mean to start an argument but a DX is on the same level as an IMX, I've used the DX and it isn't in the same space as a GLX, I can't say anything about the Oorchi XX but from what I gather on TT, the GLX still has more sensitivity than those rods too but it depends on the person.

It's my understanding that the rep. sample thing was a way some dealers were getting around MAP pricing .After all,how many could there really be ?..

Also heard that shimano/loomis has put a stop to it. Will be interesting to see if any more show up for sale.

lock down nut on my 803c that was purchased 4 years ago just broke off. 852c that i purchased a bit earlier is still holding up.
