Mystery Solved

I was fishing yesterday, using a worm with a pegged worm weight. I caught and released a nice bass. On my next cast, I heard what I can only describe as a split second buzzing sound. On the retrieve the reel sounded normal. I checked my reel over and couldn't find anything wrong. This went on for about five or six casts. Just about the time I was ready to retire that reel for the day, suddenly I knew exactly what was wrong. I looked for the little rubber peg. It had slid about four feet up my line. The noise was that peg sliding through the last five guides on my rod. Put the peg back in place, noise all gone. I'm glad I discovered this before going to all the trouble of tearing down my reel unnecessarily.

Sounds like operator error, for your own safety I'm going to have to insist you pack that rod and reel up and send it to me. In fact to be safe you'd better send all your fishing gear to me and take up chess instead. :)

Something to keep an eye out for in the future, lest that bobber stop get hung up enough it causes that weight to come flying back at you and your rod. Thanks for sharing and reminding us we are all human and do silly things on the water sometimes!

Last week I was bank fishing, testing out a new rod, on the backswing my trailing treble hook grabbed the leaf of a small bush and on the acceleration of my cast my spool exploded into what can only be described as a new world record in birds nests. To add insult to injury after cutting it out and getting the spool straightened out as I restrung my rod I forgot to run the line through the level wind guide on my reel. But I sure knew it after the first cast.

LOL. The exact same thing happened to me . I could have wrote the same paragraph .

I had this exact same thing happen to me on Saturday afternoon fishing from the bank.  I had just looked behind me and made a mental note about how close a tree was to me.  What I didn't notice was the big plant to my right.  On my next side-arm cast my bait caught the plant and... I lost so much line cutting out that birds nest that I had to retire that rod for the day.  And because it was the only rod I brought with me I had to stop fishing for the day.  SMH.........

Hootie, that reminds me of when I was a kid. I'd use close pins on the front fork of my bicycle to hold picture cards in place while they flopped against the spokes of the wheel. They sounded like a old air compressor motor. It was a big deal back then. And: Dah! To You... lol

I did that. Did you ever do it with balloons?

Never used balloons, what did they sound like?

Never used balloons, what did they sound like?

You tied them the fork, front usually. The spokes would rub against the balloon, like the cards. Sounded about the same as the cards, only more muffled. You would be amazed at how long they would last before they would pop.

Thanks for the solidarity, glad I'm not the only fisherman on here who experiences calamity. When I did it I looked around to make sure no one was watching, could have been a bloopers episode on Bill Dance show.
