Without A Boat!

Featured Replies

I'm currently stationed at Fort Campbell, KY near Lake Kentucky, I've seen a lot of tournaments going on there and have always wanted to compete in a tournament with winning on my mind because I'm competitive but having fun and gaining experience being my top priority Well, my biggest issues are that I do NOT  have a boat and I'm sure I do not have nearly as much experience as most who compete. My question is how would I go about finding a tournament where I can find a "partner" or is there ever any bank fishing tournaments? I'm in Tennessee now but am moving to Georgia in December. Thanks to all who reply.

Check out local clubs, preferably ones who have boaters compete against boaters, and co's vs co's. Its a great way to learn as you get to fish with different boaters each tourney since most do blind draws to determine pairings for each tourney.

Don't give a second thought to experience level, everyone starts at the beginning. Just pay attention, respect others property (boats) and just fish.

Personally I didn't want a club affiliated with BASS or FLW, seemed to get to many guys with the idea they will be some big money making pro and take the fun out of things.

Check out the bfl's. You don't need a boat or know anyone with a boat. You sign up and get paired with a random boater. I fished it as a co-angler for 2 years and really liked it. I personally never had a bad boater. There was times we didn't catch anything but that is just fishing. I believe entry fees are $110 as co-angler. They have 5 qualifying tournaments. 4 one dayers and one super Tourny where the top 20% fishes the second day. Then top 50 in over all point makes regionals. Where you could win a boat. The top 6 form regionals makes the American. But I really like it. It give you a chance fish new water.with different people and learn new and different techniques. You should check it out.

Happens at even the local level, the reason I left the club I joined. I loved fishing the events but when you get to the dock end of day and get a cold shoulder from a small group of guys over $20 its pretty pathetic. I think the professionalism in the bigger tours are worth the extra cost.

Local clubs are the way to go IMO.
