I like to pitch slab spoons into docks...usually 30-50 feet deep.I've always used a jig rod but after having one straighten the hook last year I'm wondering if a crankbait rod would be better. It would have to be about 6ft 6 so it's maneuverable in the stalls but have enough power to pull them out of the boat lifts.

I use 1/2 and 3/4 oz. Spoons.....any thoughts ?

Parabolic flippin stick with 20# fluoro.

I use Loomis PR845C for structure spoons, ice jigs, small crank and spinner baits. This is 7' rod however.

Take a look a spinner bait specific rods, several brands to choose from in the 6'6" length range. Dobyn's 683C should work, 6'8" length.

If I had the patience to let a 1/2 oz spoon get down 50 ft, I'd use the same rod I use for spinnerbaits. Also, I fish spoons with a single hook, or upsize to a beefier treble and clip one of the hooks off. This is one of my fav ways to catch SMB, and salt water fish. When the FF lights up with arches near the bottom in 20 ft plus, I get giddy...

I fish slab spoons un docks etc. like you mention and I use a 5'6'' M graphite rod with a pistol grip.  Granted, I am only going down 17-25 feet but It has plenty of power to set the hook and like you I wanted to be able to pitch into tight areas when inbetween docks.

I'd swap out the hooks before changing rods. If you want a dedicated rod for this application, I'd lean toward a spinnerbait/jig rod. Fast, but not too fast of an action and not pool cue powerful tip.
