Probably old news to some but I just discovered that Cashion rods make kayak specific rods featuring shorter handle lengths.  This is a big plus when sitting in a kayak with the rod right in front of you, with the shorter handle your not getting stuck in the gut. There are a few rods out there like the TFO rods that also are a little shorter but not like the specific kayak rods Cashion has. I will definitly be looking to try some of these out.

If not just look for long handle rds at yard sales and cut them to suit ,lots of times you can find big name rods with a $3 price on them

Hey man, not trying to rain on your parade but all the kayak specific rods' model numbers except one match those found in the elite series line of rods.  Seems like existing products are being marketed as kayak specific.  

 

You are right that Cashion have shorter handles than most.  I have a 6'9" MH and a 6'9"H and both have 8.5" handles but I don't these on the website anymore.  Just look through their whole lineup and perhaps there are more choices that fit your style of fishing than those labelled as kayak specific.

 

I really like everything about my Cashion's except the ACS reel seat.  If I could get these with and ECS I would probably own twenty of these.

It is all a marketing gimmick.  I have been kayak fishing for a long time and haven't had any issues with non kayak rods and now especially with the advent of raised seat positions it isn't much different than being in a traditional boat.  I wonder if they will come out with the jon boat rod or maybe the deep V rod or the fiberglass rod...

Have to say that I've never used a kayak-specific

rod. My Carbonlites have longer handles than some,

but I simply adjust to them.

 

That said, i've considered cutting my CLs a little

shorter in the butt end so I don't bump my PFD

so often. But i'm probably not gonna do

it and void the warranty. I just adapt.

Fly fisher nailed it.last time i checked fish have no clue if your using a shakeyhead rod or a dropshot rod.all this tech specific rod stuff catches way more humans then fish.i dont care whats "fun" to use.i have more fun catchin fish then looking at my fishing rod

I have an inflatable pontoon boat and there is not much difference from that and a kayak.  With that said, I have yet to have an issue casting when I am out fishing on this thing.   This company seems to have nice rods but I have yet to ever see one.
