Biggest Lure The Med Light Tatula Rod Can Handle?

Featured Replies

What's the biggest lure the 7' med light Daiwa tatula rod able to handle?

I was wondering because the lure rating says up to 5/8 oz but in this Wired to fish article the guy is clearly using a 6xd.

Thanks!

A 6XD on a ML rod? No thanks. I'm sure it can cast it, but cranking it back would probably be a serious chore.

I was thinking the same thing...I don't know why he wouldn't be using the med hvy cranking!?

Maybe he's fishing with braid?

You could throw a  3 oz swimbait with that rod, doesn't make it a good idea or very efficient.  Lure ratings aren't literal.

The tatula rods seem to be rated 1 power under. At least the ones that I've used so far. Also when going by lure specs.

Up to 5/8 Ml = M

Up to 3/4 M = Mh

I have that rod and I would not use it to throw a bait like that.

It makes a difference in hook sets.  I have a M/L Carrot Stix with braid, I can easily throw stuff over it's weight limit.  So, braid makes a difference, but it can only help so much.

I can't wait to get one of those. I'll relegate it to 1/8-3/8 weights. I'm thinking weightless plastics and scatter raps. Need an alphas sv 105 too, though.
