Need Advice On Deciding What Jig Rod To Get.

Featured Replies

Hello everyone, I am looking to purchase a new rod for jig fishing. I use 3/8, 1/2 most of the time with the occasional 3/4. I have narrowed my options down to these two rods but am have a hard time deciding witch one to get. Any advice would be very much appreciated.

G. Loomis E6X Casting Rod 7' Heavy 844C MBR vs. Dobyns Savvy Micro Casting Rod 7'3" Heavy

I've never fished with the E6X but I have with the Savvy.  The Savvy imo has terrible sensitivity vs a lot of cheaper rods.  Since sensitivity is key for bottom contacts I wouldn't purchase a Savvy.  If these were my only two choices I'd go with the E6X as I hear they are pretty good.  However, if it were me, I'd probably go with one of these Shimano Zodias, and Fenwick Aetos or Elite Tech for that price range.

I agree with looking at other options as well.

'Yea i have heard the same thing about the dobbyns rods. b/t those two definatly the loomis. I have a duckett white ice 7'3 heavy that i love for mag worms, jigs and flipping, if your looking for other options.

The Savy is garbage. I would highly recommend getting your hands on a Tatula before you buy the E6X. The Tatulas in the MH and Heavy range are nasty. Super light, super strong, very very comfortable. Check out the Tackletour review on them. They are like 11 grams lighter than the GLX but just as powerful.

Note that they sell for 150.00 on line but ever store that I have seen them at locally has them priced at 119.00.

I second the tatula. 711MHRB if you use braided mainline and 711MHXB if you use mono. All the rods in this line are incredible, especially for the money. I have 3, looking at a 4th.

If you're looking to stay in that same price range I would highly suggest taking a look at the Duckett White Ice line of rod's. they are great.  As other have already said stay far away from the Savvy line of rod's. The Ex6 are a little tip heavy but they are a fair rod.

I'd pick the 7'3" simply because it's longer.

loomis between the two. maybe also look at the St. Croix Avid or Avid X in the same price range.

You getting into the custom rod price point, take a look at ALX rods like the Dragger. If interested PM, will give the serial #'s of my jig rods or contact the site sponsor DVT.

Has anyone ever used the Powell Max 3D, if so would you recommend it?
