I don't look forward to seeing other people getting hurt either, but it already happened.

Extreme caution must be exercised when handling big fish. These creatures are very powerful. I was offshore fishing once with my BIL and he caught a big beautiful dolphin (mahi). When we brought it on board this fish went ballistic. My BIL trying to subdue the fish during this melee, was struck right across his face with the tail. Impact was so hard his sunglasses flew off his face and into the ocean. (Great pair of Costa's sadly) Fortunately, he was not seriously hurt like the man in the video, but he did get knocked pretty good.

Holy crap that dude was bleeding a lot probably broke his nose

I'm guessing it split his chin open. In my experience, someone hit in the nose doesn't get knocked out like that. It's pretty surprising how much you can bleed out of your chin and a hard shot to the chin will make almost anyone's lights go out.

That looks like a giant Arapaima.  They are very dangerous fish.  One hit Jeremy Wade from River Monsters in the chest and did permanent damage to his heart.

he'll know not to bring a fish that big so close to his face again...lol

My guess is they were trying to move the fish to somewhere with more water.  They weren't going to kill the fish, quite the opposite actually.  You could tell there was at least 1 more in that tiny, drying puddle they were in.

My friend got tail slapped on the leg by a 50lb cobia we gaffed and brought in the boat while it was a little green, left a nasty bruise. One of my dad's friends was reaching into our fishbox when a triggerfish about 3lbs bit him and held on hard enough that when he jerked his hand back the fish came with it. No stitches needed but close.

Fishing can be a contact sport!

Should of expected it he was close to hit.

They call that getting slap happy on the fishes part.

He needs to take MMA training before he tries that again !!!!!!!!!!!

  • 3 weeks later...

They weren't being very careful.

That looked like an arapaima! Also there can be a lot of fish that will knock you out lol. A cobia is a good example...
