Tube Jigs On A Baitcaster?

Featured Replies

I've always used a spinning rod for tube jigs, but am curious if it will work on a baitcaster. Thanks for the help!

Nope, it won't work.  Tube jigs are strictly to be used on spinning tackle.

Yep, this will work just fine. Just used this over the weekend.

80% of the time I use a baitcaster for my tube fishing, but I rarely throw a tube that isn't at least 3.75in. or larger. Between the weight of the jig and the tube, I don't have issues with using baitcasters.  The rod you use is more of a factor than the type of reel.

One of my favorite follow ups to a missed buzzbait blowup is a texas rigged tube in the same color with an 1/8oz weight. Works very well for me.

If I am fishing water less that 12-13 feet I will throw them on a casting rod. When I am stroking the tube I will use heavy mono or copoly to slow down the rate of fall which I cannot fish on spinning gear easily.

Yup yup. I vary the weight depending on the wind and depth I'm throwing them in.

Any particular reason why you think they won´t work ?

A parasite worm weight will keep the weight next to the tube and keep the tube in place .
