Shimano Clarus Spinning Question

Featured Replies

So i need a 6'6 medium- extra fast spinning rod in the $100 range. I do a lot of bank fishing in creeks and rivers were i walk miles into the woods and i prefer 6'6 rods for that. I found this clarus rod that looks nice plus i love cork.

Anyone try this rod? Any reviews or suggestions? Other rod recommendations are welcome.

Just has to be in between 6'6 and 6'10 medium- extra fast. Thanks

I have a MH 6'6" paired to a Sahara 2500 and it's a really nice setup for the foot patrol, I do have to mention that it's a little bit stiff but dang, that rod really performs some killer hooksets.

I use a 6 1/2 med fast and I like it. It is a good value for the money

I have a 7ft MH Spinning model, bought it with a 4000 Symetre 14 yrs ago..this rod has caught everything from Bluegills and Bass to Black Drum and Small Sharks! Not my lightest rod but probably my toughest.

I wouldn't rule out the mojo series (st Croix) in this price range. Just something to think about. I have both clarus and mojo. I like the mojo for bank beating ( casts lighter baits better to me) but I use the clarus when I'm in the boat, for wacky rigs ( it has a little more back bone)

I have always been a shimano guy until recently. I have found that for the lower price range $50 to $100 other companies have stepped up their game too much to ignore. The clarus and compre are a bit heavier it seems and they are particularity tip heavy which bugs the crap out of me.

My 6 year old clarus has a much better overall feel and balance than the same exact new one.

Of course this is very anecdotal, your experience may vary. I vote exploring other options in your price range.

I'm going to keep recommending them until they sell out, but St Croix has Rage and Mojo Bass rods on clearance on their website, both that fit the specs you're looking for!
