Looking For Some Help On A Tw Order

Featured Replies

I'm gonna do one last order for the year and was looking for some suggestions on cold water baits. Im looking to learn some new cold water techniques or some baits for one's I already use. I've mainly only used lipless cranks and jerkbaits. Any help would be appreciated.

My coldwater baits are a suspending jerkbait, a blade bait and jigs.

Now would be a good time to pull the trigger on a swimbait.

I always have jigs tipped with a trailer of pork. Most dont use pork as trailer anymore, but for me, its a much better trailer in cold water. Hair jigs are great in cold water also. The colder the water the slower you fishem.

A couple of squarebill crankbaits would be on my list if I did not already have them.

Shakey head with finesse worms or some craws like the paca craw or rage craw!

Hair jigs, living rubber jigs, dropshot, jerkbait, chatterbait, and a lipless crankbait.

Thanks everyone for the help. I have some of the stuff you guys have mentioned. As far as blade baits, hair jigs and swimbaits what would you guys recommend? I'm debating getting my first megabass jerkbait as well as an s waver and a savage gear line thru trout. I've been using some keitechs and doing alright on those as well.

jerkbaits, bladed jigs, and jigs are my favorites when the water starts to get cold, then jigging spoons when it gets real cold. I'm going to try hard to get my first fish on a blade bait this winter though.

Are you a bank angler or boat?

I fish from the bank the majority of the time. Luckily the lakes I usually fish don't have too much cover and are pretty steep, so I rarely lose anything.

Fishing from the bank eliminates your ability to use sonar to locate deep bait and bass, you are basically blind.

What's this means is vertical lure presentation like structure spoons aren't a possibility and you are guessing how deep to fish.

You can fish soft plastics effectively; drop shot, C or T-rigs, jigs are good bottom bumping choices.

Swimbaits are another group of lures that work good during cold water periods, need the proper tackle.

If you like jerk baits consider Spy baits.

Keep in mind that creature and craw soft plastics can be rigged on a drop shot or finesse C-rig and traditional C & T-rigs.

For hair jigs I pretty much get mine from two places. A member here does some great 1/4 oz and under jigs. For the bigger hair jigs I usually buy those from Northstar. Excellent for when the water is under 60 degrees and up until ice up. For chatterbaits I also get these from a member here. Excellent baits with a paddle style trailer like a 3.8 in fact impact or a 4 inch swing impact. I dropshot a lot or Jackall products like the I-shad and crosstail shad. The smaller keitech baits also work very well too. For jerkbaits I would possibly point you to LC 78 and 100 series pointers. If you wanted to try a Duo Realis spybait that would be a nice option as you can count them down to the desired depth.

Fishing from the bank during cold weather season with no electronics to locate the fish is like trying to hunt with a blindfold on!

River2Sea S Waver 168S. Party crasher, bluegill, and light trout are my favorite colors.
