My dropshot rod has a typical hook keeper and I'm wondering if anyone has a trick on how to keep the rod rigged while stored. 

 

For further clarity, what is a good way to affix the weight so it doesn't pose a problem or tangle.. etc.

Well I have a handful of spinning drop shot rods. Most have a hook keeper just above the foregrip. Most of my leaders are around 12-18 inches. I like to take a rubberband and wrap it around the bottom portion of the rod handle. Simply use the rubberband to hold the sinker in place without dangling all over.

I always just remove the weight since it's attached via the crimp, then I just use the hook keeper as normal.  Dont' see a reason to keep the weight attached, it will just cause abrasion to anything it rubs up against.

If you want to keep the weight on, then see if

you can grab some strips of velcro to wrap

around the weight...

Stick the hook through the eye of the sinker and than use the hook keep.

A few years ago Iovino gave me a bag of plastic clips designed to snap onto the rod and hold drop shot weights and they work good. If interested will try to find out who makes them.

I just use a velcro cable tie.

Wrap the weight lead around the leg of the spinning reel. 

I just cut the knot at the swivel of the pre-tied dropshot rig and store my rod and reel as I store all my other rods and reels, when I go back to the water then I tie a knot to the .... you guessesd right, swivel of the pre-tied ds rig.

With drop shot keepers I put the sinker there and put a grub head onto the hook to keep from that snagging anything, including a buddy who may not know a hook is there.  Bright chartreuse is an attention getter.  

A bent paper clip and electrician's tape make a dandy keeper for the weight.  I used to pay $4.95 for the real deal until I thought, "wait, that looks like a bent paper clip!"

When boats on the trailers the rigs and lures are off the rods and put away. Always re rig every trip because knots weaken with time.

I agree that when the boats on the trailer everything gets put away.  I'm looking for a way to keep it under control while fishing.
