What do you guys use to clean the outside plastic/aluminum bodies and sideplates of your reels? 

 

anybody try wax like meguiars? 

How about your rods? 

cork? 

EVA handles?

For cork and such, you can use a Magic Eraser
and some U40.

Handles...Soap and water 

Embedded stains...Magic Eraser

Rods, guides and reels...Line and Lure

I use Meguiars quick detailer spray to wipe down my reels and rods throughout the season. I'll use wax during the winter when I'm bored. The magic eraser works great on dirty cork handles. Then I'll seal with U-40. 

All good suggestions 

Damp cloth. I have some combos that are 40+ yrs. old and they look new.

Car wax like rippin lips says for the Winter storing months. The "wax as you dry" stuff keeps em slick during the season.  KVD I've used some, but found the detailer car stuff lasts longer. 

Same stuff I use on my motorcycle: PRO HONDA SPRAY CLEANER AND POLISH. 

   

I use mr clean on my cork handles.

Reel Exterior: Rubbing Alcohol on Q-Tips (Disclaimer, Do NOT Get Near the Gears with this stuff!!)

Cork Handle: Rubbing Alcohol on a small cloth. You will see the dirt and grime, it's crazy to think.

Blank: Pledge Polish, Meguiar's or Mother's Wax

I also use a Q-Tip to check guides for knicks on my rods. I take the spool off my casting reels, try and clean every surface on the frame. Drop of oil on the the worm gear and the bar that the line guide rides on, and on the spool shaft (no oil on the magnetic side) used sparingly. Hope your cleaning goes well. When done right, home maintenance can make a reel last a lifetime.
