Kayak Question

Featured Replies

Alright to all you kayak fisherman out there (which is a massively growing number) this question probably sounds really ignorant but is hobie the only kayak that is pedal powered?

No, Native Propel also is, and Wilderness Systems has something in the works, but not released yet.

Native has the Slayer 10 and Slayer 13 wich are pedal driven with a propeller and can be pedaled forward and reverse.

On Lunkerville yesterday was a Native Mariner
pedal-powered yak, as well. But those are now
discontinued, I believe.

The Slayer uses a newer pedal system than its
brother yak, Mariner. More efficient.

As a mechanical system, the leg-powered yaks
from Native and Hobie have benefits and issues
to be aware of.  So do a good deal of research
before you drop the cash.

Also, there are some Hobie-sponsored yakkers
on the forums that can answer some questions,
don't think there are any Native sponsored folks.

Bottom line, Google the topic, the pros/cons and
form your own opinion.

Hobie has the Mirage drive.  When peddling it acts the same as the a penguins wings when swimming.  Top speeds with the mirage drive can get to 5+ mph.  If you are in the market for a yak I recommend peddling one as a demo.

I hate to be picky but it is pedaling not peddling ;P
