I'm using 6lb test for light finesse applications. Lost 1 fish on hook set, another while reeling him in and lost the hook/bait on a cast. Im pretty sure it's my knot.. I'm using the palomar. Knot looks super clean when i tie it. Anyone else have an issue regarding this knot with 6lb test red label? Is there a knot you can suggest that might make a difference?

Are you wetting your line when you cinch the knot? Are you checking the knot strength frequently?

I have not used the 6lb test, but used the 15lb this season and did not have a problem with line/knot failure.

I have not used the lighter pound test, but I use the Palomar and wet the knot and I have had no problems. Try wetting the knot, if that doesn't change anything, try a new spool, might just be a defunct. 

I used red label from 4 to 15 lb for all my leaders this past year, and didn't have any knot failures. I am using an improved clinch knot though. 

I use Red Label..........palomar knot sucks, switch to the trilene knot and your knot issues will be over.

I've always had good luck with red label and have never had an issues with the Uni and San Diego Jam knot. Make sure your wetting your line if you aren't already. 

With the Palomar try tightening by pulling the tag end of the knot. The uni knot works well.

I use the Palomar with braid.

 

For fluorocarbon I use the San Diego Jam knot.

as has been said, wet the knot and cinch slowly, so you don't burn the line.

Switched to the San Diego Jam knot with my Fluorocarbon (Seaguar Invizx 6lb, Red Label 12lb, Abrazx 20lb, Sunline Sniper 8 & 16lb, Super Fc 8 & 14lb, Gander Mountain 15lb).  NO break-offs due to knot failure.

I bought 8lb red label during TW 25 days of Christmas. I wanted to test the breaking strength but I could even do it because the knots kept failing. They weren't breaking just slipping. I wet the knot plus slowly cinched them down. I tried my favorite knot the San Diego jam, palamor, improved clinch, and trilene. All with the same result. 

Eventually I tried a double palamor and it worked perfectly. Just add another overhand knot before you pull it over the hook.

Exactly this. The knot can never be too wet when you're cinching it down.Sometimes I'll wet the knot twice when I'm cinching it down to be sure it doesn't burn itself.

On wired_2_fish, Mark Zona shows how to tie what he calls the shark knot for fluorocarbon. I switched to it in the early fall and I'm really liking it. Super easy to tie and has held well.

^^This^^ !! The Palomar knot is not the best choice with FC line because it is prone to cutting into itelf . I like the Trilene Knot (very close to a Improved Clinch Knot) and the Uni Knot ... Do a search on the Uni Knot video by Aaron Martins and he explains the the reasons for the Uni Knot for FC line  in detail ... Don't give up on the Red Label line ! Pick a knot from above suggestions , wet the knot and line well and cinch down tight s-l-o-w-l-y !! Wetting the FC line and cinching down slowly prevent friction -> burning FC line > weakening FC line -> knot failure -> lost fish and / or lure ... Ask me how I know  !

All line is subject to degradation from sun light, heat, cold, wear and being stretched. 

FC looses about 50% of it's original tensile strength after being stretched, it doesn't recover.

Test the line by wrapping it around your hands and snap your hands apart, if it breaks easily it's bad.
