Dipping some jigheads, got one a little too hot.  Lead slipped right off the hook into the powder.

using a torch huh?  Do you have a heat gun?  works faster and better. 

I think all of us have done that atleast a couple times.

I've done that, it's a clear sign of heating it too much.  Instead of using a lighter, use a can of sterno. You will get heat more of the jig head surface area more evenly.

Hit a few garage sales and get you a $5 toaster oven. Mine only cost $2. You can use it to heat up the heads, then bake on the finish.
