Question for the Dobyns guys. I need a new spinnerbait rod and it is between the 703 and the 704. I did my research, but most guys are using 3/8oz spinnerbaits, so I couldnt compare well. I will be using 1/2oz and 3/4oz exclusively. I am worried that the 703 will be underpowered, but I also know you want some give in your rod for spinnerbaits. Can I get away with the 703? Which rod would be the best choice for these 1/2-3/4oz spinnerbaits? Thanks

704

350%

At those weights, its best to go with the 704.

I would definitely go with the 704. I use the 734 for those weight spinnerbaits and buzzbaits. 3/4 oz you're almost looking at a 705 or 735.

Appreciate it guys. Would the 704 have enough of the slight "give" you are looking for while fishing spinnerbaits?

I throw the heavy ones too and would definitely recommend a 735.

Yes.

The rod decision actually depends on the blade type you use.

I fish a lot of the Eco Pro Tungsten Rapid Fire in 1/2oz that have tandem williow leaf's and the 733 is absolutely perfect for that particular blade but if there's anything besides a willow, I use a 4 power.

The 704, especially savvy which I think is a better spinnerbait series than the champ due to it not being as fast, will have the give you are looking for. If you are fishing some 3/4oz /w big colorado blades, you may want to look at the 705 if you want to fish it at anything besides a slow pace. The 704 will fish pretty much any combination 3/8-3/4 blade just fine aside from the really big colorado bladed 3/4ozs.

704 for certian.

The size and style of the blades create water resistance, the head weight isn't your biggest issue. The 3 power is able to cast 3/4 oz lures, the 4 power will handle retreiving larger size or more water resistant blades. 1/2 oz with standard size 3 & 4 double willows no issue with the 3 power, 1/2 oz with double size 2 Indiana blade the 4 power is a better choice. You got to move the lure to get a good hook set and that should be a consideration.

Definitely this! I like the savvy over the champions for spinnerbaits and chatterbaits, as it is a bit less fast. My vote goes towards the 704, or the 734 if you want the longer casts.
