Heavy cover around docks

Featured Replies

What guys do you commonly use for penetrating very thick weed beds around docks? What colors do you prefer in these situations?

For punching weeds, around docks or not, more often than not I use a texas rigged plastic beaver type bait , my favorite is the Havoc Pit Boss in green pumpkin in clear water, or black/blue in dirty water, with a pegged tungsten sinker. I use a sinker just heavy enough to get through the weeds..........sometimes it's 3/8's oz.............sometimes it's 1 oz......and sometimes it's somewhere in-between.

I use Reaction Innovations Beaver in California 420 or Black/Blue and usually a 1 oz weight and punch

Same thing I use in grass that isn't around docks, a Pit Boss. One thing about grass that is around floating docks, bass love to suspend under them even more than normal because of the extra cover. I've had great success fishing frogs right against those docks.

In grass I usually use a Texas rigged beaver bait like a pit boss I use natural colors in clear water and black and blue for darker water.

I'd definitely be throwing a texas rigged Pit Boss. It's probably the most versatile soft plastic bait I own. As for color choice Perfection is both dark enough to give a good silhouette for muddy water and natural looking enough for clear water. I also have a lot of confidence in bright colors like Electric Blue and Sapphire Blue for a reaction strike in those situations.
