Thumbs Down ?

Featured Replies

Can you use, the push your thumb on spool trick, to free, Braid line birds nets? Thinking of up-grading and was wondering, if you would have to pick them out. Bait Caster novice and getting where I don't get them, and when I do I push thumb down and reel in a little, then release and pull out until it catches again. Most of the ones, I get now are, when missing my target and hit something like wrong dock post etc. :D

Overruns on braided line are generally easier to get out.

The only adjustment I'd recommend is on the step where you pull the main line, go extra easy with braid to avoid tightening a knot by accident. Other than that the same technique works fine.

If you are new to bait casting reels the simplest method to prevent backlashes is pulling off about 50 yards of line, tape over the spooled line with Teflon plumbers tape ( 2 warps ) then wind the 50 yards of braid back onto the reel running the line between a wet towel to add a little tension. The deepest the backlash can go is down to the tape.

Yes, the thumb on the spool while you wind over a backlash works for any type of line.

PS, pull off the into a bucket of water to prevent any tangles.

Thanks, have old man eyes, and that picking knots out would, get old quick. Practicing Skipping with spinning reel, to get wrist flip, and trashed some mono (A lot). That lure/jig isn't a stone. And with braid or fluorocarbon could get expensive, looks easy on TV. lol.

Best thing, I've done in a while, is joining this site ! Thanks again. And I'll see ya, in a year or 37 at the Summit Cup
