Tallahassee bass fishing

Featured Replies

Hey guys,

my name is David Robbins I play football for Florida state and I'm going into my second year here. I'm from Maryland and I used to fish the Potomac every weekend at home but I have gotten out of fishing a lot in the last two years. It's a real shame because it's always been my release and I just have been too busy. I'd like to get my priorities straight again and make fishing a bigger part of my life. I haven't been able to find the time to go fishing much at all but the few times I have gone I haven't had any luck. If anyone has the locations of any nearby ponds or lakes in Tallahassee access all on foot I could fish at as well as some of the techniques that are good in this area at this time of the year. I'd really appreciate the help just getting started in the greatest hobby there is again.

Welcome to the forums. I would hit up the local tackle/bait shop and ask for spots they general know what they are talking about.

My buddy used to live there and we fished a lot all around there. Some spots we enjoyed were:The Ochlochonee river on the west edge of town.We took float trips down from a dirt ramp on the NW part of town and floated all the way to hwy 90.I caught a red- eye bass in there which is a largemouth sub specie. The trip took all day and was pretty remote back then.We caught lots of bream, specks(crappie to our northern friends),and bass.Another spot was the Bradford chain of lakes.I think it was SW near capital circle. We also fished Lake Jackson off 27 in the N side.Sometimes it dries up so I don't know how it is now.Carr lake near Jackson has some big bass in it I heard, but I never fished it.If you want some great saltwater fishing,go down to the gulf. There are endless opportunities there. And there's lake talquin which I only fished once but it has a good reputation.Lake Seminole is not too far either. There are countless ponds to fish.I would try flukes and senkos , watermelon seed and watermelon red are good colors.Wish I could tell you all the baits but I'd get with the local since I haven't fished there for awhile now.Oh and I have to say it "Go Gators"

Thank you both for the advice. I'm gonna hit up bass pro shops this weekend and see if there are any local tackle stores around. And Go Noles!!

I lived there 20yrs ago so alot has changed. But I used to go a little south of town into the Apalachicola National Forest and you can bank fish and also wade fish some of the ponds (hard sand bottoms). I used a berkley powerbait 4"-6" worm in pumpkinseed color texas rigged. Flukes, trickworms(shad color) rigged weightless and fished thru grass also. Check out Dog Lake Tower rd. and Lost Lake rd. on Google maps seems those had some ponds I use to fish. If you go let me know I'd like to here and see how it looks now.

Good Luck

I'm a fellow 'Nole that just returned here after 15+ years and I'm just getting back to fishing in the area.  I have had luck off highway 20 heading west.  It has a few boat ramps and piers that you can fish Lake Talquin.  Carr Lake on Meridian Rd. has a boat ramp and a dock you can fish from.  Not a great deal of room but I have caught fish there on senkos in the last two weeks.  Lake Jackson also has an are behind Shucker's oyster bar off US 27 that you can fish.  Get some decent polarized glasses any you may be able to see them on bed during the next month.  This time of year the big ones are coming in to spawn.  I had luck during the evening last weekend on Jackson.  It was overcast and they were chasing top water baits like frogs.  More than likely, I'll be on Jackson this Saturday.  Hope to see you on the water!
