Hey guys, im getting a new set up. Can anyone help me decide rod (action and length) reel , and line? Ill be making this setup for texas rig/ lighter jigs. Thanks.

Thanks for the input guys. I was looking at the croix avid and was liking that. I have one but heavy for when i fish heavy cover.

Check out the Avid X though that is their new design. My 7' rod is 3.8 ounces.

You're gonna get a ton of different answers, a lot of quality gear in that price point. Here's a few of my recommendations.

Go with whatever length you prefer in a MH F or xf

Ive decided to go with the lews tournament mb with the avid x. Would you guys throw braid on there or mono?

I would recommend braid, 30 or 40lb depending on how heavy the cover is.

You didn't state whether casting or spinning, so I'll 
just recommend a M to MH rod and a 2500 size reel
with 15lb braid + leader.

I'd recommend virtually the same for casting exception
being 20-30lb braid as your mainline.

Personally, I use M power for most of my fishing, but
have a MH casting outfit (Chronarch 50e), and a new
Croix LT Walleye spinning rod, ML with a 2500 Stradic FJ
that I find extremely capable of a number of techniques.

I like my Tatula rods.  Was at Sports Academy yesterday and got to handle a Crucial and H2O Express.  Liked the looks of both rods a lot.  Might have walked away with one of each if they had been running a sale on them.  The Primmus and any of these 3 rods will keep you below your $300 limit, and you would have a very nice combo.

What type of Tatula reels did you order? I ordered 3 100's this offseason a 5, 6, 7 to 1. Hope they're good!!

I didn't order any Tatula reels recently.  I ordered 2 Primmus and a Helios Air.  However, I have the Tatula in 6.3:1 and the Type R in 8.1:1.  I don't see any difference in casting between the two (although someone better might), but like the looks of the Type R better.  They are very good reels.  Doubt you will regret getting them unless you are one of those few who feel it is a bit wider than they like.  Only real complaints I read about the reel is the ergonomics from some people.  I feel my hands are average, and I have absolutely no problem with how they feel in my hand.
