New Casting Rod recommendations for pitchin, c-rigs, etc

Featured Replies

I just picked up a barely used Chronarch Ci4 150HG and now I need a rod for it.  The spring fishing and boat show is on this weekend so I'll be on the prowl for deals.

My application will include C-Rigs, lighter pitching, long range/deep jigs and plastics, spinnerbaits, and med swim jigs.  Basically the most versatile rod in my box.

I'm thinking about something that's between 7' and 7'6", Medium Heavy, with a fast or xtra fast tip for under $250.

Some ideas are:

Fenwick Aetos 7'2" MH/XF

*** Envi Black 7'3" MH/XF

Loomis IMX (It would have to be quite a deal....lol)

TIA

Avid X in your choice of size. Go play with one if you can.

You don't want the Aetos 7'2" MH-XF, it is under rated as it is a very stout rod. I use mine for a dedicated pitching stick but it is also great with swim jigs in cover, and I'm talking 1/2oz with 5/0 hooks. I also suggest you look for a rod with a fast action and not extra fast, C-Rigs you want the rod to be a little lighter in the tip but since you want an all-purpose type set up go with a fast action rod in a medium heavy power between 7' and 7'4".

Duckett Micro Magic Pro or White Ice, 7'3" Heavy-Fast. I own one and the techniques you mentioned is exactly what I use it for.

Dobyns 735 model of your choice.

unfortunately, this is not the best resource for product reviews because several products have been banned and cannot be discussed (see idea #2).

check out monster fishing tackle. you should be able to get a glx for about $280 and a imx for about $200 after clicking "email me best price" and getting the $25 off for signing up to the newsletter.

my chronarch ci4+ is on a megabass orochi xx i just got for what you're describing.  haven't used it enough for a good review, but they feel great together.

Abu Garcia IKE rods are awesome. Give the 70-5 and 72-6 a look.

I just found a Champion 735 w/full grip gently used for $150 CAN.  :-D

What are your thoughts on 30lb PP w/17lb floro?

I'm looking at 6 bass tournaments this year so this outfit will get a ton of use!

I have used the Falcon Jason Christie Signature Series 7'3 JCC-73JW for all of those applications over the past couple years. I've beat the snot out of it, caught tons of fish on it, and have just flat out enjoyed it. Same blanks as the BuCoo blanks and for $100 its tough to beat at the price point for the value.

I'd get a Megabass Levante personally.

Grab it...   personally I would do 17-20lb fluorocarbon (Sniper or Abrazx) with a 12-17lb mono leader for the  Carolina Rigs.  No leader obviously for the other techniques.

I went looking for this exact same rod last year. I ended up with a orochi xx emtf. And it is the most amazing rod I have ever felt. Amazingly balanced for a 7'5" rod, and it has a great almost parabolic taper with some serious backbone. I love it for my 3/16 to 7/16 weights. I have it paired with a curado 200i and it is a absolute dream to fish with, and amazingly sensitive to boot. If you plan on buying a megabass rod I highly suggest you hit up tackle trap and give them a call.
