Lure ID Help

Featured Replies

Hello! Does anybody recognize the silver lure in in this photo? It has no writing or logos on it, kind of looks like a jointed Rat L Trap but I can't find anything online on it. I found it in my Dad's old fishing room.

Thanks!

That is an old Cotton Cordell Jointed Spot.

Have you fished it? I never fished a joined lipless before and am pretty curious how it performs.

Wow, thanks for the ID! I haven't fished it yet but I'm tempted to give it a cast or two tonight. If I do I'll let you know how it fishes. :)

Bigturtle is right, it is a Cotton Cordell Jointed Spot. I have got one in my lipless box.

What they said ^  they do work, there is better options out there though

Thanks again. I tried it out tonight and while it had some nice vibration to it, I had a lot of trouble with the rear treble catching on the line. Is there a way around this or was this a flaw in the design of this lure?

One way that helps tangles like you describe is to stop your cast before it hits the water, thus tending to straighten the line/lure as it hits.  Not 100%, but it helps.

Thanks for the tip! I did try this and it helped to some extent. I tried doing a lift and drop type retrieve and it sometimes fouled on the drop. Not sure if this is how to fish this lure but it gave off some nice vibration that way!
