Broken tip on my Dobyns Savvy Series rod, SS703C, between the 2nd and 3rd eye. Do you think I could get a worthwhile fix by a pro? I know a guy who does this. OTOH, if it is not hard to do, I would like to do it to save money, lol.

How could I fix this, and do you think it will be worthwhile afterwards? Can a broke place be stuck together or do you have to reduce the overall rod length by just sticking on a new/same rod tip? That might not work well, because the distance between the tip and the first eye would be much shortened.

 

Well you now just have a shorter rod.  You really only have 2 choices, 1, retip the shorter rod where it's broke or 2, try and warranty it through Dobyns.  But as for connecting the two pieces together, I don't think it will work and it will always be a weak point in the rod even if you did fix it it's going to fail again.

send it back to dobyns for warranty. They will ask you to only send 6-8 inch label portion of the rod back to them in an envelope with a note that they will tel you what to put on it. anything with a aerated edge can cut through the blank. They will call you when they receive it just pay the 40(ish) dollar no questions asked replacement fee and they will send you a new rod.  

That tip can be repaired by a qualified Rod builder. I've done several that have stood the test of time with nearly imperceptible affect on the action. It's much too involved for a novice diy project. If you can get it warranted why not? Re-tipping it will raise the casting weight and slow the action.

Uh-oh, I checked their site for warranty replacement, must have gone up. It says $60 + $20 return shipping, so, $80 to replace. More than I want to spend. Will check on getting it repaired.

yeah re-tip it but now it will fish like a 6'6" and likely more of a 4 or 5 power than the 3 it was.

I have the same Rod . A couple of months ago my daughter shut it in my truck door . I sent it do dobyns they replaced it for $80
