From what I'm reading it seems that St Croix runs on the heavy side of power. My opinion is Dobyns is towards the lighter side. What are your opinions of G Loomis?

Glad to hear that since I ordered a NRX in the power that I wanted.

I must be missing something with g loomis rods and have thought about posting this for a while. Looking at the weight ratings for the nrx, I would have to get the 895 extra heavy rod to fish a half ounce jig and trailer. A medium heavy would be over the weight rating with a 3/8 jig and trailer. Even the spinnerbait rods would be borderline with a finess spinnerbait. What am I missing? Do people just ignore the ratings?

I haven't owned a Loomis in many years, but my tournament partner fishes with Loomis rods, and I have grabbed one of his sticks and used it on occasion. IMHO

My custom rods built on MHX blanks feel a lot like Loomis rods in there power rating,

No unfortunately the one I ordered was on backorder. They said it should ship out probably this upcoming week.

Awesome man.  Mine just came in Friday.  It casts great in the front yard...lol.  Hopefully I will get over to the lake this afternoon.

Wait. So you did get one? Last I knew you were debating it. How does it compare to the GLX?

Yep, that is mine in the picture.  When my last GLX arrived damaged, I took that as a sign to go for the NRX.  My buddy had been razzing me saying the Metanium deserved better than "just a GLX"...lol  Scott at Monster was awesome and took care of getting the GLX headed back to Loomis and the NRX on the way.  I have not gotten a chance to fish it yet, so I can't really make a and educated assessment.  I can say that it is extremely light and absolutely beautiful build quality...but then again so is the GLX.  I do really like the Blue, I know some don't.  It also came with a G Loomis rod sock which is a nice touch.  

Honestly, if the combo fishes as good as it feels in my hands I am going to be very happy.

  I have no problem with my 854 loomis with a half oz jigs.  Almost all my rods are stcroix or loomis.  I would rate my mh stcroix as slightly lighter then my loomis heavy but much closer to it then my mh loomis.  Seems to me they are closer at the lower power ratings, but still about halfway between.  So I fish accordingly.  I also have no problem fishing 1/2 to 3/4 oz jigs on my mh stcroix.

Interesting.  So you think your MH Croix is heavier than your Loomis MH?

Edit:  Nevermind, I had something crossed in my mind.  What you said sounds right and is my experience as well.

It is really not what I expected. I originally wanted it for bottom contact presentation's in med to heavy cover but it scares me. Gonna have to get a JWR one for that..Which I didn't expect I'd have to do.

They are more powerful than they feel.  Don't be scared to yank on that thing.  I think you will be surprised.

What kind of cover ? because my 3 power GLoomis rods are actually the ones that see the most action of all my rods and I fish this:

Also fish many ponds with tule in them and haven´t had any problem.

Rarely do I fish that kind of water. If I did I think I would agree with you. 

I live in So Fla where the majority of the waters that we fish in (Okeechobee,  Toho, etc.) have mostly moderate to heavy submerged and emergent grass, heavy concentrations of reeds (I gues thats what you call tules). That's the type of cover that I wanted another MH/F rod for. Really anything but for punching matt's and for open water. 

I understand that the Loomis JWR series are more stout

The ponds I fish are similar to what you describe, you won't have many problems with a 3 power rod, I don't.
