Please help me with this reel

Featured Replies

Hey guys, looking for some help finishing repairing this reel. I've already gotten the anti reverse bearing cleaned thoroughly and have one last issue with this reel that I just can't quite wrap my head around.

The issue that I'm having, and I took pictures just in case you can't understand my lingo for parts, is that the bottom of the main gear lightly rubs against the top of the clutch engage pin and I just can't figure out the problem. I don't have the schematics for this reel specifically but it's definitely not a complicated reel. I don't think that I'm missing any washers on the bottom end of the drive shaft or any under the bearing for the drive shaft because that would shim up the plate that secures the clutch down, as well as the clutch pin.

Any help would be greatly appreciated, and Mike if you'rereading this I've got an older chronarch to send your way with missing pieces. A fellow club member of mine attempted to learn reel maintenance and cleaning and washed a part of the worm gear assembly down the drain.

There should be a washer between the white plastic gear and the gear directly above it below the main gear.I can't tell by the picture if it's there or not. At least I think there should be a washer there. Every daiwa Ive worked on had one. Will feel like hardened cardboard kinda.

Looks like the drag washer from under the main gear is missing. You can send me your buddy's reel when you're ready. I'll take care of it.

Always have a schematic handy when tearing a reel apart. Daiwa offers theirs online. There should be a washer that is hard plastic under the main gear. Make sure it's there.

The hard plastic drag washer is there in the pictures I posted, impossible to see it in those pictures I know, but I do know how the drag system goes together with the main gear etc etc, I'm thinking the spring that holds that clutch pin might be bent or something.

Maybe try reversing the spring. Not able to tell from the photo, but it does look like its applying tension to the clutch pawl.
