dessicant silica gel packages

Featured Replies

the silica gel packages that come with shoes to control moisture (little white package with small balls in it.... is there a better way to describe that?)

has any one ever tried putting these packages in with their hooks to try and prevent rust? just a thought i had

I do it all the time. My wife works part time in a clothing store and ahe brings me home a handful every couple of months that they normally throw away.

I use the packs in my tackle boxes. But once in a while I still find slightly rusty hooks. I think that that several packs per box are needed to be effective.

I use two or three per plano box.

Every since I started using them i haven't had any rust issues.. I put them in all my boxes... I think I paid around 3 or 4 bucks for like 300 of them off of e bay..

Keep in mind that they have to be "dried out" occasionally, microwave works.

I use them in all my boxes. Just throw a few throughout the box as evenly as you can and they work good. I've definitely noticed a difference.

What a phenomenal idea. Thank you for this tip

I'm sure those will work. It's probably cheaper than the current option I use of the Zer-rust tabs. Those have worked well for me though.

Yep! I put them in my tackle box, got some really
big packs in one of them, and tiny ones in my hook
box. They work great.

Whole gallon ziplock full of 'em collected over the
years for when one of the kids' phones (or mine)
get wet...

The only drawback to using them is getting caught switching lures when it's raining.  Too much moisture and they turn to slime.  I switched to the Z-Rust tabs.
