Featured Replies

So im hoping there may be some guys who like fly fishing. I was given two fly rods and dont know anything about them. From the lil research i did it looks like i may have gotten some good gear. So here it is.

Orvis battenkill disc reels 1 3/4 and 1 7/8 both made in england

1 g loomis gl3 fr1087 rod 9' 7# line

1 st. Croix legend series im-s graphite

Any info would be appreciated. if there worth what i think im going to try to trade maybe later on for baitcaster/spinning rod & reels. But not too positive yet

The Battenkill is Orvis' entry level reel.

That St. Croix is ~15 years old based on the cosmetics.

The GL3 is a nice rod.

None of the stuff is super high end but it's nice stuff.  Personally I'd just hang on to it.  You have 2 set ups that would cover all your needs the 3/4 wgt for Panfish and Trout, the 7/8 for bass.

If you were selling I'd say $100-125 each for it to sell.  The used market for fly gear is rather flooded.

Battenkills are really solid reels. Both rods look nice. I say keep them.

Ok thanks guys. I never got into fly fishing but always wanted to learn lol. So i guess its worth more to keep. They are in really good condition. Got them from a old timer who just cant do it anymore. Thanks again for your unput as i had no idea what i have. Gotta love a bass forum where people will help out even when its not really bass fishing lol.

Perfectly good outfits. They are good quality mid-range outfits in their day.

I have a GL3 1089, and a 904. I believe they were $200 in the 90's when I bought them new.

Orvis stuff is all good quality. The "Battenkill" was made by Hardy Bros. a quality reel maker.

I thought the England Made reels were worth something.  I had a CFO 123 made in England once, sold it 10 years after I bought it for what I originally paid for it.

Yes they are to the right people.  the bass fishing forum or fly anglers online board would better suit the o.p. for better direction on that.  Better yet the reels sub forum on theflyfishingforum.

(^ the EXO is alive and well you sold me!!!)

As has been said already, good equipment.

That Loomis at 7 wt. will make a great fly rod for bass should you choose to give it a shot.

You don;t mention the line weight for the St. Croix...is it a heavier weight rod, or lighter?

The English made Battenkills are solid, functional reels - fine for bass, panfish or trout.

My brother is an Orvis Pro-Staffer...  Those are nice reels and work horses, just not the current sexy CNC'd stuff.  You'll be happy to learn on quality gear.  Maybe check the line, it may be old/dry/cracked.
