No knowledge of Daiwa

Featured Replies

A local,   small  tackle shop is having their annual spring sale.    I stopped in today and found,   two Wright & McGill Victory baitcasters for half retail,  as well as a Team Daiwa 103PVA.  All reels new and just having been sitting on the shelf since whenever.

I checked out the tackletour review on the Victory,  it got a 8.08 great review.

I have always wondered about the Team Daiwa reels of that era but,  never took the plunge.  Stayed with Shimano.

Real curious about the TD 103 PVA...

Do you mean Daiwa TD 103 HDA? Update the drag and change the spool bears to ABEC 5 series and you have a very good bait casting reel. I still have 3 of these that date back into the early 90's and still going strong.

Correct

The TDS were good reels, the PVA is the power version with a gear ratio of 5.5 if memory serves me well, a good cleaning and upgrading the drag pads would turn it into a nice adition as a deep diving crankbait reel.

Good reel.  I know 5.something is out of favor, but that would make a good crankbait, slow rolling, or small/medium swimbait reel.

It depends on how much that Daiwa reel is, I have a TD-X and a TD-S 103 HVA and if they are selling it for more than $100 don't consider it. I paid a good bit for those reel but today they are heavy and other reels, like the Lews LFS speed spool outperform and are lighter.

EDIT: I meant to say perform just as well, not outperform. That Daiwa reel is very good but by todays standards it shouldn't be too much, $100 is what I would pay, anymore and it isn't worth it.
